Bowie State University running back Micah Robinson has been named the DC Touchdown Club Washington Metro College Football Player of the Week after the best performance of his career led the Bulldogs to a 42-37 win at Bluefield State this past Saturday.
Robinson, a redshirt sophomore, set career highs with 31 carries for 193 yards and matched his career high with four touchdowns as Bowie State built a big lead and held on for the win.
“His running style – he’s slippery and has really good contact balance,” Bowie State offensive coordinate Matt Goggans said. “He has good vision as well. The good ballplayers don’t get squared up and form tackled very often or easily and he falls into that boat. You never see anyone get a good shot on him. He’s having a really good year.”
Robinson’s emergence has been a reward for his patience. Recruited by the previous coaching staff at Bowie, Robinson joined the team as a walk on but could only practice during the 2022 and 2023 seasons because of academic issues. Goggans said that Robinson turned things around in the classroom and he got going on the field last season, including back-to-back games with 181 yards and 171 yards rushing.
This season, Robinson has been sharing the workload with Maximus Jones, but Robinson burst through this past Saturday with four touchdown runs in the first three quarters.
“We saw glimpses of this” during his two seasons on the scout team, Goggans said. “It probably was really helpful not just for him to get the reps but also for our defense to get a look at a really good player. He didn’t complain about having to sit out. He took the bull by the horns and bought into everything we asked him to do. He’s been doing a great job academically lately and doing a great job on the football field.”
