North Carolina Central University wide receiver Chauncey Spikes, who played at Paint Branch High School and Rock Creek Christian Academy, has been named the DC Touchdown Club Washington Metro College Football Player of the Week after the best game of his collegiate career sparked the Eagles to a 35-14 win at Howard.
Spikes set career-highs with nine catches for 208 yards and three touchdowns as North Carolina Central won for the fifth time in six games.
Spikes got off to a quick start, catching four passes for 54 yards on the Eagles’ opening series, capped by a 13-yard touchdown catch. On Central’s next possession, Spikes caught an 80-yard touchdown pass. He added an eight-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter.
“Chauncey Spikes was phenomenal,” Central Coach Trei Oliver said. “That guy, I ain’t seen nothing like that in a long time – 200 yards receiving and those catches were contested, very, very tough catches. I’m so proud of him and the development he has had.”
