Syracuse wide receiver Umari Hatcher, who starred at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, has been named the DC Touchdown Club College Player of the Week, after his career-best performance helped the Orange pull out a thrilling victory.
Hatcher, in his sixth season at Syracuse, set career-highs with 12 catches for 152 yards and three touchdowns, the last one coming on fourth-and-goal from the 17 in overtime as the Orange beat U-Conn, 42-41.
Hatcher missed most of the past two seasons because of a serious knee injury. He worked hard to prepare for this season and it has shown in his results. He had eight catches for 147 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener against New Hampshire and almost certainly will set career-highs in every receiving statistic.
"He's on a mission, and he's one of our leaders that we're following on the football team," Syracuse Coach Fran Brown said after the New Hampshire game.
