University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams, who played at Gonzaga College High School in Northwest Washington, is the DC Touchdown Club Washington Metro College Player of the Week for the second time this month after another career night led the fifth-ranked Trojans to a 48-45 win over rival No. 17 UCLA this past Saturday.

Williams, a sophomore, completed 32 of 43 passes for a career-high 470 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for a score as Southern Cal earned a berth in the Pac-12 conference championship game. With a victory there and in the regular season finale against Notre Dame, the Trojans could be in position to earn a berth in the College Football Playoff.

On Sunday, the Trojans returned to the Associated Press top 5 for the first time in five years, riding an offense led by Williams, who played at Oklahoma last season. But after Coach Lincoln Riley was hired at Southern Cal, Williams soon followed and he has put together a spectacular season.

Williams has completed 250 of 385 passes for 3,480 yards and 33 touchdowns with just three interceptions, while also rushing for seven touchdowns and leading the Trojans to a 10-1 record. Williams has four 300-yard games and two 400-yard games.

“He’s been one of the best players in the country this year,” Riley said. “He’s played really well.”
