Washington Commanders outside linebacker Dorance Armstrong has been named the DC Touchdown Club Pro Player of the Week after his strong performance helped the Commanders snap a three-game winless streak.
Armstrong, now in his ninth NFL season, made a career-high seven tackles, including a game-changing sack where he forced a fumble that the Commanders recovered en route to a 27-10 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football.
Washington led 13-10 at halftime and that was the score late in the third quarter as the Eagles drove into Commanders’ territory. Facing third-and-4 from the 37, quarterback Tanner McKee was chased out of the pocket by Armstrong, who then knocked the ball loose as he tackled McKee. Teammate Charles Omenihu recovered, leading to the first of three straight scoring drives for Washington.
“Armstong was a factor tonight,” Commanders Coach Dan Quinn said. “The size of these tackles, you have to get up under them. These are the biggest tackles we’re going to face all season. It takes a lot to rush. You can’t go down the middle because they can take the power rush and make them feel not so powerful.”
