Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, who starred at Gonzaga College High School in Northwest Washington, has been named the DC Touchdown Club Pro Player of the Week after his sensational performance led the Bears to a record-setting win.

Williams, now in his third professional season, completed 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 10 times for 65 yards and two more scores as the Bears set a new franchise record for most points scored in a season opener, going on the road and beating the Carolina Panthers, 59-37.

"It's how we want to look each week," Williams told reporters after the game. "And that doesn't just happen. It happens over time. It happens through training camp, OTAs. It happens through the week of preparation that we have. It happens with having open communication throughout the week about what works, what doesn't work."

Williams got the Bears on the scoreboard with a nine-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter. He then threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to tight end Cole Kmet and scored on a 29-yard scramble late in the first half as Chicago led 31-24 at halftime. His one-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jahdae Walker made it 52-31 midway through the fourth quarter.
